Rev. Larry Phillips earned his Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio in 1975. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Springfield, Ohio for eight years, where he worked closely with the local Planned Parenthood and volunteered as a counselor for Project Woman, a woman's advocacy agency. In 1983, he was called as the pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Schenectady. In 1997, he was instrumental in bringing together two historic downtown congregations, Emmanuel Baptist Church and Friedens United Church of Christ. Although ordained as an American Baptist, he also has standing with the United Church of Christ. He is a charter member of the Adirondack Coalition for Choice and for several years chaired the national American Baptist Witness for Choice Committee. He has been an ardent supporter of Planned Parenthood for over 30 years. He and his wife, Faye, are the parents of two daughters, Jennifer and Emily.
Marcia Tolman is a Commissioned Minister of Education for the United Church of Christ. She earned this authorization through the New York School of Ministry (NYSOM). Emmanuel Friedens Church called her as Director of Christian Education in October of 2007. She is known by many demoniations in the Captial Region for her passion and committment to educational ministry for all ages and faith communities. Marcia holds several masters degrees in the field of education. Her career as an educator covered more than 25 years, with a focus on special education. Marcia belongs to the Assoiation of United Christian Educators (A.U.C.E) and PArtners in Education (P.I.E.) and many justice affiliationsShe lives in Albany with her two sons, Terence and Matthew. Some of Marcia's hobbies include writing, sewing, spiritual practice and playing in God's backyard.
